2. Main function:
1,Acute ingestion of the unabsorbed sugar rhamnose in humans raises serum propionate, whereas acute ingestion of lactulose raises serum acetate.
2, It is not known whether shortchain fatty acid concentrations in urine and feces reflect those in blood.
3, Used as a sweetener, can be used to measure intestinal permeability.
